We are pleased to announce that the staff and researchers from RIAS have already received training on best practices in external biosecurity. This crucial aspect helps safeguard animals from pathogens and improves their health and welfare. Farm data can be filled in for free at www.Biocheck.UGent.be<\/mark>, which serves as a national benchmarking tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biosecurity helps to prevent the entry and spread of infectious diseases on and between farms and reduce disease incidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

External biosecurity aims to prevent the introduction of pathogens onto the farm through, for example, controlling movement of animals and people on and off farms, including wildlife vectors, and the use of quarantine when buying in stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internal biosecurity concerns the transmission of pathogens within the farm boundaries, with stocking density, hygiene and disease transmission mechanisms being important considerations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
